My wife and daughter need the toilet more often than I do. Whenever I drive from eastern Idaho to Reno Nevada, I stop at EVERY town between Twin Falls and Reno so they can walk around and use the toilet EVEN if they claim that they are fine, because they next rest area is at least an hour away, sometimes two hours.

Most of the time there is an exit with a gas station with a toilet or a rest area. There are options for the true traveler! The the diy bucket is best IMO especially ona boat! https://t.co/dukgM6Pi4g

Japan built its travel network around trains, America built its travel network around the highways. Every gas station has a public bathroom, food, medicine (especially for upset stomach), etc and there are rest stops for long distance travelers every so often.

There are only a few areas of the country where it is a truly long drive before you find anywhere to stop. Even sparsely populated states, there are small towns every 10-20 miles that will have convenience stores. And there are often random truck stops in the middle of nowhere

In America, we have these things called Rest Stops. They're spaced every 100 miles or so apart and they vary wildly in quality, but all of them at the very least have a restroom and a place to park off the highway.

On really long stretches of State Roads or US Roads (Route 66, US Hwy 20, etc.) where it is rather unpopulated there will be signs for how far the next rest area or gas station is. In the Western US, most Interstate rest stops are just where the homeless panhandlers collect to beg.

So to pee you simply either pull over and pee behind your car or maybe in a bottle.. to poop, just gotta make a decision but it's not stupid to keep some toilet paper or napkins in your car for various reasons.. things like that or cleaning spills, wiping fog.. grocery bags too..

Sometimes you just need to find a bush or a corn field. I have stopped to pee in a field when the corn is tall a lot of times. Most highways have bathroom reasonably spaced out aside from remote areas. They won’t necessarily be clean bathrooms but they are there.

@bravard_tina We do keep track. But I have gone to the bathroom in the woods out of sheer necessity. Many places have LONG stretches with no restrooms. It happens.

I carry toilet paper and wipes. Sometimes you gotta pull off the road, run to the bushes, and shit your brains out. Had to barter a beer for access to a construction porta potty this summer. I'm in Alaska, so the rules are a little different.

If you're near towns, you can find gas station with toilets. If you're literally in the middle of nowhere, there's almost never any traffic either, so you just bolt far from the road, preferably behind some trees.

There are usually rest areas, and there are maps or apps that tell you where they are. If you are a guy, you can pull to the side of the road, lift the hood and pretend to look at the engine, and, well, you know.

I used to work for Schwan's, a frozen food home sales company. We drove freezer trucks around on set routes, rather than long distances, so we always had a pretty good idea where the best restrooms were. But the guy I took over the route from was old school. On the last day of training, he handed me a list of addresses. It was the a list of all the port-a-potties, sani-cans, and honey-buckets in his route area. He acted as if he were handing me sacred script. He wasn't wrong.

There are usually rest stops. My family lived all over the USA and I've traveled from California to Florida by car. We stopped at gas stations, Wal Mart and exits that only had bathrooms and a parking lot for truckers to rest. Known as a Rest Stop/Area. https://t.co/GQAeIvyLEe

as an old time girl scout who loved camping, if caught out on a long lonely highway and have an emergency, I have a roll of toilet paper/plastic doggie bags behind the back seat. I know how to find a bush and do the deed. And bag it all up to dispose of at the next gas station

As guys? We can go just about anywhere. Pop the door open, use it as a shield so no one's seeing anything they don't want to, and just go. Sit down potty is a little more difficult.. Requires more space and more privacy and a good bit more creativity.

There are public rest stops along the the highways, especially as you cross state lines. More often, we'll stop at a gas station or convenience store. The most you'd have to drive is an hour or two in most places. If you can't make it that far, get a motel room and stay hydrated.

In the longest stretches of country highways, you might be as much as 45 minutes from the nearest gas station. You basically have to plan ahead for stuff like that. If you might be having issues like that, it's best not to travel outside of areas where gas station density is too low. There are rest areas with bathrooms along most stretches of highway, but depending on where you go, they may be closed during winter months. GPS can tell you where the nearest bathroom is and worst case scenario, you can try your luck with a stranger's kindness in the most rural areas. Tldr: plan ahead.
