I think, song means that the main character in MV made a huge mistake in their relationships and now feels strong guilt, and strongly waiting for the punishment, but don't wants to end their love. I feel like this is about being guilty about being in a toxic relationship? "Punish me" "I should've burned it down when it was still a bud" saying that she could've left her lover before it turned toxic. Apparently, through one of the japanese comments "she might be Aphrodite" who is the goddess of love, so it could be about a toxic relationship and victimblaming and "I wanted to be happy"

Would I be crazy to think this is the other pov of retry now? The person who's been constantly killed by Miku, and reset so she could try again, I think everytime she says no, her memories flood back, because Miku wants her to say it without influence, and everytime she says no she remembers all past resets and tries to beg for mercy: punish me but don't reset me again, I promise I love you

I was preparing for a surprise beatdrop around the chorus but it never came… Like a constant sense of dread that isn't there but keeps lingering. And like someone else has already pointed out "Punish me" sounds like "Aishite"

What im getting vibes of(im garbage at explaining songs) is that the girl is in an abusive relationship that she thought was a good relationship because of when they met, it was peaceful. When she says ‘punish me’, it’s because she did something wrong, and she feels like she deserves a punishment. At the end of the song, she has to learn to be used to it. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME EXPLAINING SONGS
