In America, convenience store food is a desperate last resort.
Hot dogs that have been rolling under heat lamps since Tuesday. Dry, rubbery sandwiches wrapped in sweat-soaked plastic. You eat it because nothing else is open, and you regret it three hours later.

The empanadas in the morning are quite good. Order a whole pizza in the afternoon, solid for the price. In Hawaii they have Spam Musubi, and a number of other edible food choices. There are others with decent to good food. It really just depends on where you are, and finding the right ones. +2

My fourth trip to Japan. I regret so much not thinking about eating the Egg Sando. Anthony Bourdain said it was his fav thing ever and he gets his from Lawson. I did however stock up onthe red bean mochi balls. That was what I ate (4 tiny ones) at 4 am on the second rainy morning when we ascended Mt Fuji !!! It was what fueled me. I liked it so much I bought a few packs back to California to show my husband. I was on a ramen search but this means I gotta go back and get the American 7/11 out of my gag reflex and give the Japanese 7/11 a go. If it’s good for Bourdain it sure will be good – tho I’ve tried it once long ago. +1

One of the best burgers you can get around me comes from the convience store at a gas station. The beef and bacon is locally sourced, and made to order. I literally know the guys who raised and butchered the cow. The buns are baked that morning. Best of all you can get the burger, with a side of 1lb of fries or potato wedges (which are also made to order), and two 20oz pops for only $8.50.
The same place makes fresh pastries every Mon-Wed-Fri, and if they sit for more then 8 hours unsold they are sold at half price. The chicken they sell is also locally sourced and very good, but I prefer the burgers. 😉 +0

And while Buc-ee's is the gold standard, it's not the only great option. I love going to Maverick for a massive Coca-Cola slushy and a slice of hot honey pepperoni pizza. +0
